Finlands sword-bearing metal merchants Ensiferum are back with a crushing new mini-CD, filled to the brim with melodies honouring the Nordic pagan heritage, delivered with the firm conviction of seasoned professionals they are. Indeed, the band just celebrated their 10th anniversary in a concert on New Years Eve, with a possible DVD release of the said show in the works.

After a successful trip to Copenhagens legendary Sweet Silence Studies to record with Flemming Rasmussen (known for his ground-breaking work with Metallica in their speed metallic prime), the Ensiferum longship landed nearer home this time around, and the band entered Sonic Pump Studios for the recording of the present opus Dragonheads. The resulting sound is crisp and loud, presenting no disappointment for the hordes of Ensiferum fans worldwide. Dragonheads is an excellent follow-up to the past two albums Ensiferum (2001) and Iron (2004) and a good point to catch up while waiting for the eventual album number #4 of this hardworking group. A heartfelt medley of Finnish folk favourites (Karjalan kunnailla, Myrskyluodon Maija & Metsmiehen laulu) performed in the unique Ensiferum style closes the mini-album.

Dragonheads is also the first Ensiferum recording to feature Petri Lindroos from Norther as a full member of the band on guitar and vocals, filling the boots left by Jari Menp (now pursuing a successful solo career with Wintersun). Another newcomer since the last album is Janne Parviainen (ex-Barathrum, ex-Waltari) on drums, who replaced Oliver Fokin. The line-up is completed with founding member Markus Toivonen (guitar), Sami Hinkka (bass) and Meiju Enho (keyboards).

On New Years Eve 2005-2006, Finnish folk-metallers Ensiferum celebrated their 10th anniversary with a live concert at Helsinkis club Nosturi, and now finally this spectacular show has been brought forth to a DVD for all to watch!

Now, with Petri Lindroos from Norther handling the growling vocals, guitarist Markus Toivonen singing the clean vocal melodies, Janne Parviainen (ex-Barathrum, ex-Waltari) on drums, bassist Sami Hinkka not only playing bass but also backing up Markus clean vocals, and with the beautiful folk-maiden Meiju Enho on keyboards, Ensiferum will continue to deliver the best folk metal there is on this universe!

Gathering songs from all of the bands albums, this DVD not only shows the band at their finest, its also an excellent introduction to the bands music, and an excellent way to catch up with what Ensiferums up to, whilst waiting for their next album, due out in early 2007.

Filled to the brim with melodies honouring the Nordic pagan heritage and delivered with the firm conviction of the seasoned professionals that Ensiferum are, this is one live release you shouldnt miss!
